Professional Background
I am a retired senior business executive and Licensed Massage Therapist (MT 141576), and am registered as a National Provider Identifier (NPI 1215767751) by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
I worked at a local massage school as a part-time academic instructor and in various operations, marketing, and quality assurance roles, including working with over 50 student interns in the development and refinement of their skills. I have also written a business-related Continuing Education course.
I have taken courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Pathology, and over 200 hours of massage therapy techniques, and passed a rigorous regulatory exam demonstrating my proficiency.
Why Community Service Is Central
A large portion of my practice is complimentary in nature. With a family member who worked at two domestic violence shelters, I witnessed the stress on her in supporting these victims. I could only imagine the stress that these families themselves were undergoing, their entire lives turned upside down without any idea of what to do or where to go.
I then decided to return to school and obtain my license so I could support these victims and their counselors by providing pro-bono massages. I have been to local shelters and outreach centers, homeless shelters, and continue to expand my services to other similar facilities on an ongoing basis.
I also give back by performing pro-bono chair massages to local teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, staff members at various nonprofits, foot massages and chair massages for residents at assisted living facilities, and by contributing massage packages for school PTA and nonprofit fundraiser silent auctions.
As a result of my volunteer efforts, in 2023 I was the recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award with nearly 500 hours of volunteer service.
Low Cost, Not Low Value
I also have a for-profit side, however I continue to give back here as well. My fees are considerably less than my peers and are in line with what massage schools charge for student interns.
My practice is limited to mobile massage only, but I do not charge additional trip or travel fees for this service, nor for any add-ons. I have seen what stress does to the human body and how massage can alleviate that stress. I do not want to deny anyone the experience and benefits of massage due to financial reasons.
The fees earned merely pay for incidental costs such as licensing, insurance, supplies, continuing education courses, and travel expenses, and are not designed to provide a living income for me.
Massage and Bodywork Offered
My practice consists of Relaxational, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Myo-Fascial, and Bodywork, all of which may incorporate optional stretching. I also offer mobile chair massages for small businesses and corporations.
